This is to my fellow millennials that have beaten themselves up too much this year because almost nothing made sense, or the ones who started strong but finished poor, or the ones who got to the party very late. . . News flash, all those people you think have their shit together don’t know what they are doing most of the time. Most people don’t post their failures neither will the ones with good results talk about the price for the prize.
I’ve heard people say to me they wish they are me while deep down, I felt empty at the time because I have no idea what I was going to do or which decision to make but I’ll smile through the compliment (I know what it means to give or receive hope) and to a large extent, I think the choice to choose positivity and breathe even under the water is what has ensured my sanity overtime. . . Just because people carry it so well doesn’t mean it’s not heavy, growth is a continuous process.
I’ve seen people go bitter about life and themselves because they’ve chosen other people’s lifestyle as their yardstick, rather than take account of their journey and measure how far they’ve gone, they are blinded with ‘could have’s and ‘should have’s. People are losing their essence because it seems more logical to compare their journeys with others forgetting it’s a race to be a better version of self not a competition.
Don’t get me wrong, I have people I look forward to, I have people whose voices resonates hope to me but that’s where I draw the line. I consciously try not to measure my life around someone else’s no matter how much I admire their lifestyle, I pick lessons and take notes and work on my life at my pace while I enjoy my processes too. Do I get frustrated? Oh! A lot of times (sometimes depressed) but I notice we often forget the fact that whoever we look up to are humans and they’ve either dealt with our current same shits or are still dealing with it and that doesn’t make them more or less human. . .
Lastly, fellow 20something, I understand this wasn’t the plan but this is you now, take notes, try again and do better in 2020. You’ve got a whole ass new decade to start afresh or continue the good race. I hope it will be your best yet and you find peace with whatever your decisions are!
Cheers to a better decade!!
